Cette thèse s’inscrit dans le champ de la recherche-création. Elle propose d’explorer le concept de durée narrative, entendu comme l’expérience sensible du temps qui passe à la lecture d’un texte littéraire. À travers une étude approfondie de l’œuvre de Jean-Philippe Toussaint, il s’agit d’observer comment cette durée narrative se manifeste, comment elle se construit, se déforme, s’étire ou se suspend à l’intérieur même du tissu romanesque. L’analyse cherche ainsi à dégager des figures récurrentes de la durée, à la fois narratives, stylistiques et affectives. Dans un second temps, cette réflexion théorique et analytique se prolonge par une approche pédagogique, fondée sur notre pratique de l’enseignement au sein du Master de Création littéraire de Toulouse. Elle interroge les manières dont la durée narrative peut être transmise, mise en œuvre ou expérimentée dans un cadre d’atelier, et s’appuie enfin sur une mise en pratique à travers un travail d’écriture personnelle, nourri par les acquis critiques et les expérimentations menées tout au long de la recherche. |
This doctoral thesis falls within the field of research-creation. It aims to investigate the concept of narrative duration, understood as the reader’s embodied experience of time passing while reading a literary text. Through a detailed study of the work of Jean-Philippe Toussaint, the thesis examines how this notion takes shape within his novels—how it is constructed, distorted, extended, or suspended through narrative and stylistic means. The goal is to identify recurring figures of duration, viewed both as formal patterns and affective rhythms. Building on this theoretical and analytical foundation, the final part of the thesis turns to a pedagogical reflection rooted in our teaching practice within the Master’s program in Creative Writing at the University of Toulouse. It considers how narrative duration might be taught, explored, or enacted in writing workshops, and culminates in a creative component that puts these reflections into practice through original writing informed by the critical insights developed throughout the project. |
