Objectifs :

During this workshop, participants will analyze the opportunities and risks of using generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, in the classroom. Based on this analysis, they will be able to take a critical approach to these tools and adapt both their teaching practices and their methods for assessing student learning accordingly.

Programme :

The workshop is structured around four activities:

Activity #1:
Participants will work in pairs. Each participant will submit two prompts to the selected AI: one on a topic in which they are an expert, and one on a topic corresponding to their partner’s area of expertise. Each participant will evaluate the two AI responses based on several criteria: relevance, consistency, accuracy, and completeness. A comparison of the responses and an overview of how AI generates them will allow participants to analyze the opportunities and risks associated with the use of AI, both (1) for learning and submitting reports from the “student’s perspective” and (2) for teaching and assigning projects from the “instructor’s perspective.”

Activity #2:
Participants will be asked to design a teaching activity to train their students in the critical use of AI.

Activity #3:
Participants will be asked to design a teaching activity that leverages AI as a tool for learning the subject they teach (first identifying the learning outcomes that AI will support).

Activity #4:
Participants will identify the risks and opportunities involved in assigning students work that they are likely to produce using AI on a large scale, and will be encouraged to update their assessment practices accordingly.
