  • The Team “Microbiota, Gut and Inflammation” from the St Antoine Research Center (Sorbonne University, Inserm) in Paris is looking for a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist preferably with expertise in Microbiome analysis (but not mandatory).


    Responsibilities

    The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary research team headed by Pr Harry Sokol (http://en.crsa.fr/equipe-philippe-seksik.html, https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2914-1822) and exploring the role of gut microbiota-host interactions in health and diseases, with a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The applicant will be supervised by experienced bioinformaticians and will interact with wet lab scientists including microbiologists, cell biologists, immunologists, biochemists , and clinicians. The applicant will be in charge of several projects involving the analysis of human gut microbiota sequencing data (and possibly other types of Omics datasets . The successful candidate will work as part of a team, where he/she will have to manage his/her own independent projects and projects in collaboration with other researchers (wet lab scientists and bioinformaticians).

  • We are seeking a candidate with a master degree (MSc.) (or equivalent) with training in bioinformatics/computational biology. An experience in analyzing shotgun metagenomics data would be ideal, but motivated candidates with experience in manipulating genomic data can also apply. Theoretical knowledge in microbiology, bacterial genomics and immunology is desirable.

    This position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills. We seek a candidate with strong computer programming and scripting skills (Bash, R and/or Python). Experience with HPC computing would be a plus.

    The applicant should be proficient in written and spoken English as part of an international team.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to draft and publish several scientific manuscripts based on his/her results, and to significantly expand his/her expertise, network and track record.

    The initial employment contract will be for up to 2 years with the possibility to prolong the contract up to 4 years and to apply for a permanent position.
