  • The aim of the mission will be to study the carbon footprint of food flows on the network of French wholesale markets. This study will be carried out within the Labcom LOPF, between Califrais, a start-up developing artificial intelligence algorithms for the food supply chain, and LPSM, CNRS - Sorbonne Université - Université Paris Cité. The deliverable will be a “white paper” on decarbonizing the wholesale market network.
    Activities
    - draw up an inventory based on available scientific literature, identifying all the components of fresh produce distribution involved
    - propose several plans for reducing this carbon footprint, with a view to the future. Transport issues will be central: today, 90% of freight in France is transported by road. This will involve making several modelling and simulation choices for transition scenarios, potentially differentiated according to the type of urban planning in each region.
    - This study will be both qualitative and quantitative, involving the modeling and simulation of several decarbonization scenarios. A quantitative study may be based on public data as well as Califrais’ proprietary data for the Rungis market.
